Eliciting accurate and actionable parent preferences regarding their children’s health using discrete choice experiments

We read with interest the article by McBain et al reporting the results of two discrete choice experiments (DCEs) evaluating parents’ research priorities.1 We commend the authors for so thoughtfully engaging with parental views on research priorities. The DCEs were completed by a cohort of parents of children aged 6–24 months in Australia, as a part of Generation Victoria (GenV), the largest parent and child cohort in the country, established to help solve complex paediatric health problems through a combination of observational and interventional work. Despite heterogeneity in parents’ priorities, McBain et al1 reported that ‘cardiovascular health’ was the top priority for research followed by ‘cognition,’ ‘lung health’ and ‘blood sugar levels.’
