High blood pressure is certainly a major public health issue, especially in Africa, where eating habits, economic conditions and cultural traditions impact health results. The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which emphasises a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy, has been extensively advocated as a successful strategy for lowering blood pressure.1 2 Although research robustly backs its effectiveness, sticking to the diet continues to be a significant hurdle, as indicated by recent studies investigating its application in African communities.
