Background We present our experience with the use of a 4 channel EEG system (Mindray ®) and instant messaging in managing patients in neuro-ICU.Methods Mindray ® monitoring systems include a 4 channel EEG module, with 3 reduced array montages, colour density spectral array (DSA), and qEEG parameters. DSA and raw EEG were sent by instant message for expert review. Results 41 patients were monitored.Cases monitored were query seizure/reduced conscious level (20), status epilepticus (15), and post cardiac arrest (6).Status epilepticus the cEEG patterns were epileptiform activity (13); ictal-interictal continuum (9); no epileptiform activity (9); suppressed (18). The actions were: increase sedation (5); increase anti-seizure medication (6); add additional treatment (5); reduce sedation (13).Query seizure/reduced conscious level the cEEG patterns were epileptiform activity (1); ictal-interictal continuum (4); no epileptiform activity (18). The actions were: increase sedation (3); increase anti-seizure medication (4); reduce sedation (9).Cardiac arrest the EEG patterns were epileptiform activity (1); no epileptiform activity (4); suppressed (1). The actions were: increase sedation (1); reduce sedation (4).Conclusions It is possible to set up cEEG monitoring using tools built into ICU monitoring systems. cEEG can form an integral part of management of status epilepticus and seizures.robyn.terry@nca.nhs.uk
