Len Doyal: medical ethicist who enjoyed robust debate and set up one of the NHS’s first clinical ethics committees

Len Doyal was a medical ethicist and philosopher who never wavered in his commitment to engage sensitively and positively with those who had opposing views. He was, for example, a passionate advocate of physician assisted suicide, arguing that even non-voluntary euthanasia should be legal under certain limited circumstances.
