Tranexamic acid (TXA) is an antifibrinolytic agent which inhibits the activation of plasminogen to plasmin. 1 Plasmin is a fibrinolytic which causes clot breakdown and, therefore, preventing activation of plasmin prevents clot breakdown. TXA is a synthetic analogue of the amino acid lysine.
