I thank Weller for responding to my article about living with an increased risk of cancer.12 As well as being a patient, I am a researcher at the University of Oxford, studying the ethics of early detection and overdiagnosis of cancer. Because of this, unlike most patients, I am very familiar with research on melanoma overdiagnosis. I understand that I am very likely to have been overdiagnosed. This is a source of solace, but learning about the possibility of overdiagnosis has also been a source of pain.
