From 2013 to 2022, the French military medical service supported armed forces during Sahel operations across a 5 million-km2 area. Because of the limited number and the distant location of medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) helicopters and medical treatment facilities (MTFs), medical teams had to go beyond tactical combat casualty care and provide prolonged casualty care (PCC).1–3 PCC refers to extended medical support beyond doctrinal evacuation timelines.4 5
