Introduction It’s important to remember that the support groups facilitated by Jersey Hospice are not run the same as a therapy group. They function as a social-educational approach by creating a shared environment where individuals with similar experiences learn from one another.Aims To introduce a new programme to the bereavement service (‘Seasons for Growth’) for young people in small groups to provide support when going through loss.Provide training for staff qualified to work with under 18-year-olds with the ‘Seasons for Growth’ programme.Involve qualified counsellor volunteers with the adult 6-week bereavement group with Lead Counsellor initially. To provide better information to the public about the benefits of attending a bereavement group.Have dedicated young person’s room solely for use of under 18-year-olds.Methods Group members who are doing well and finding new ways to heal can provide hope to those who are new to grief and show that it’s possible to feel joy again (among other things). Some group members might prove the group’s efficacy and provide reassurance to others that the support group itself is a positive and helpful tool.Increase the use of social media to promote groups.Establish contacts with secondary schools, Youth Enquiry Service, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and Family Hub to promote the ‘Seasons of Growth’ to children, young people and their parents/carers.More detailed information on website about what it is like to attend a bereavement, grief and loss group, possible quotes and feedback of those attended.Using a designated confidential room set up for small groups of young people to attend the programme.Providing age-appropriate resources and environment. Results The adult 6-week bereavement group for death of a partner in October to November 2025 is full. The children’s ‘Seasons for Growth’ programme is being offered to 13–16-year-olds from May 2025.
