Advances in critical care have led to improved survival rates among patients with severe illness, shifting the focus from short-term survival to long-term recovery and quality of life. While the impact of critical care admission has been well documented in high-income countries,1 there is limited evidence on the long-term impact of critical illness in low-resource countries. This has been identified by the recent multi-country Delphi study on critical care research priorities in low-resource settings to develop strategies to improve psychological recovery and physical rehabilitation following critical illness.2 In this paper, we explore nursing contributions within rehabilitation across the patient pathway in low-income countries.
