As artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT become a more common entry point for health information,1 little is known about how they shape abortion seekers’ access to care, particularly in legally restrictive settings. Abortion seekers have used the internet to find information on, and facilitate access to, self-managed abortions (SMA) for over two decades.2 The WHO has emphasised that individuals engaging in SMA must have access to accurate information to ensure safety.3 While in some contexts, SMA is the only option available, it can also be a preferred option for some abortion care seekers.
