Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are the preferred surgical access for dialysis in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). AVF creation can be accomplished under brachial plexus blocks. Patients with ESKD often require anticoagulation due to increased thromboembolic risk. Anticoagulants complicate the perioperative period due to bleeding risks at surgical and regional anesthesia sites, but interrupting anticoagulation may increase thromboembolic risk.
