Empowering children, young people and their families to improve paediatric patient safety

The healthcare system in the UK, as in the rest of the world, does not guarantee the safety of the children and young people receiving hospital-based care. Harm is experienced within healthcare settings with key areas of risk including medication harm, deterioration, sepsis and hospital-acquired infections. 1 Children, young people and their families (CYPF) are often best placed to work alongside healthcare professionals to reduce safety risks for themselves and the system as a whole.
