Preterm twin infant with Netherton syndrome

The case involves a female infant born preterm at 31 weeks +3 days gestation, as part of a twin pregnancy, delivered via normal vaginal delivery (NVD). The mother, a 23-year-old gravida 2, para 1, had a prior history of preterm vaginal delivery at 34 weeks of gestation, resulting in neonatal death due to respiratory distress and skin desquamation. Parents are consanguineous with no significant family history of inherited disease. Antenatal care was initially provided at a private centre, with care transitioning to our institution during the third trimester. The most recent ultrasound revealed dichorionic-diamniotic viable twins with normal foetal anatomy. The mother presented at 31 weeks with labour pains and watery vaginal discharge, prompting delivery. She received one dose of betamethasone and one dose of magnesium sulphate before delivery. She underwent an uncomplicated NVD, with a smooth perinatal course.
