When UK Biobank deidentified data appeared on an online Chinese marketplace, it prompted concern about data security.1 UK Biobank withdrew researcher access to their platform and within weeks published a report2 summarising the full investigation of an oversight committee and outlining nine recommendations and actions. The speed, depth, and transparency of the review, with clear areas for improvement, is commendable. The question now is what the wider health data ecosystem can learn from this case.
