The patient was born to a primigravida mother in her late 20s. The pregnancy was complicated by type IV placenta previa, first detected at 24 weeks of gestation. There was no clinical antepartum haemorrhage at any point. Maternal blood pressure and glucose were normal throughout. At 33 weeks and 5 days of gestation, the mother presented to the emergency department with labour pain. Uterine contractions were confirmed on cardiotocography (CTG). A trial of tocolytics failed to suppress labour. She received a single dose of betamethasone (12 mg), 9 hours before delivery.
