Delirium is an acute impairment of consciousness characterised by a disturbance in attention and sleep-wake cycle. Delirium is frequently observed in patients with cancer and is associated with increased mortality and morbidity, elevated distress of patients and family, prolonged hospital stays and additional medical costs. Therefore, interventions aimed at preventing delirium are of clinical significance.
