An article published by Labandeyra et al1 regarding “obturator canal block” to achieve obturator nerve block (ONB) has greatly piqued our interest. We were impressed by their comprehensive anatomical descriptions of the exit of the obturator canal, including sonoanatomical and cadaveric assessments. However, we are of the opinion that naming the technique “obturator canal block” can be misleading. In 2023, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA)-European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA) Delphi consensus study group agreed to name peripheral nerve blocks based on a template consisting of the name of the nerve to be blocked and the anatomical location where it is blocked (eg, ONB at the obturator canal).2 Naming Labandeyra’s technique an obturator canal block/approach may not comply with this agreement.
