In the past, smallpox, polio and measles caused enormous suffering, death and financial health burdens all around the world. However, in recent times, these infectious diseases have been eradicated except for a few cases each year. This disease eradication has been achieved by developing effective vaccines and their equitable and effective distribution worldwide through childhood immunisation, mass vaccination and education. By prioritising every life with the motto, no one is safe till everyone is safe, these campaigns have set an example of how a collaborative, voluntary international response can tame pandemics. Rapid immunisation also prevents the viruses from developing vaccine-resistant mutations and provides lifelong hard immunity.
