A 59-year-old man developed high fevers (39.0–40.2°C), cough, vomiting and reduced appetite while travelling from Guinea-Bissau to the UK. Initially, he was treated with amoxicillin for a presumed respiratory tract infection, but his symptoms persisted. Two weeks later, he developed involuntary movements affecting his upper and lower limbs, torso and eyes, along with unsteady gait, that led to hospital admission.
