Nigel Starey grew up in rural Buckinghamshire and attended St Edward’s School in Oxford before studying physiology (biology and human genetics) at King’s College London. This was followed by medicine at the University of London, Charing Cross. He subsequently worked in hospitals across London, Derby, and Aberdeen.
