A female patient in her late 60s presented to the maxillofacial team 3 days after sustaining a dog bite to the nose. The full-thickness avulsion injury involved the nostril, with loss of the nasal tip, lower left cartilage and inner lining ( figure 1). Immediate treatment was limited to wound care, prophylactic tetanus and antibiotics, as the patient was away at the time of the injury and delayed seeking further care due to anxiety about aesthetics.
