The UK was one of the first countries to develop asthma guidelines and has robust systems for investigating asthma deaths in children and young people (CYP) under 18 years of age.1 2 Despite this, one child dies from asthma every month in England, UK.1 In too many places across the UK, primary and secondary asthma care for CYP is woefully substandard.1–5 Preventable attacks and deaths are among the highest internationally.3 6 The provision of care for CYP with asthma has failed to implement evidence-based guidelines and also failed to learn and implement lessons from preventable asthma deaths.
