Addressing prevention and management of wasting and nutritional oedema in children requires an improved evidence base on resource use and cost-effectiveness of interventions

Economic evaluations of interventions are critical for informing health recommendations, particularly in resource-limited settings. To ensure transparent decision-making, the Guideline Development Group (GDG) responsible for developing the 2023 WHO guideline on the prevention and management of wasting and nutritional oedema 1 used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) Evidence to Decision (EtD) framework.2 This framework includes resource use and cost-effectiveness (CE) as core criteria to determine the direction and strength of recommendations.
