The World Health Organization (WHO) defines infertility as the lack of a pregnancy after at least 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. 1 This includes primary female infertility, which refers to a person who has never previously been pregnant, secondary female infertility, when at least one previous pregnancy has occurred, and male infertility.1 WHO estimates that one in six people is affected by infertility globally (data obtained between 1990-2021).2 Infertility has been increasing over time, with more people turning to primary care providers for advice.34
