People with a learning disability die prematurely: on average women in this group die 23 years younger than those in the general population, men 19 years younger.1 In 2022, 42% of these deaths were classified as avoidable, which compares with 22% in the general population.2 An autism diagnosis is associated with a 16 year shorter life expectancy.1
