People who have a first seizure in adult life are about 70 times more likely than members of the general population to receive a diagnosis of neurological cancer. Even so, the absolute risk is low. In a nationwide Danish cohort of 50 000 adults with a first seizure, 2.4% were diagnosed with neurological cancer and 1.7% with non-neurological cancer in the following year ( JAMA Neurol doi:10.1001/jamaneurol.2026.0894). The vast majority of first seizures are not caused by cancer.
