Introduction Vascular-related risk factors and modifiable lifestyle factors have been associated with dementia risk in observational studies. Exercise is a modifiable lifestyle factor identified as potentially reducing or delaying the progression of dementia. Information regarding exercise in cognitive impairment will help clinicians develop advice for patients presenting to memory clinics.Aims The primary aim was a scoping review of clinical guidelines and patient information published in English language, guiding exercise in dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Secondary aims included identifying activity groups and resources in South Yorkshire that helped facilitate the implementation of exercise guidance in dementia patients. Methods Systematic literature search of Google Scholar, PubMed for publications in English from 2013 to 2024 and a grey literature search using Google. Results 81 most relevant publications were identified. After exclusion,18 were included in the final review.150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week was the most common recommendation found throughout the guidelines, followed by resistance training twice per week. Balance training was also included in some guidelines. Conclusion For resistance and balance training, intensity, time, volume and progression weren’t stated in most guidelines. More research is needed to develop better practice guidelines and guide healthcare providers in prescribing exercise.surya.kanan@yahoo.com
