Injury surveillance in cycling has historically focused on injury incidence, diagnostic classification and time-loss outcomes at the individual-athlete level. 1 While these measures are essential, they provide limited insight into the relative severity of race incidents in a mass-start sport characterised by dense pelotons, high speeds and substantial heterogeneity in crash consequences.
