World Hepatitis Day 2025 was observed through a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme and a technical consultation meeting focusing on viral hepatitis and comprehensive liver care under the Preventive Hepatology Initiative. Aligned with the global theme ‘Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down’, the event emphasised reducing systemic, social and financial barriers to hepatitis prevention, testing and treatment while addressing stigma and strengthening liver cancer prevention efforts in the state.The CME sensitised medical, nursing and public health students to the burden of viral hepatitis, highlighting its epidemiology, transmission patterns of hepatitis A–E, diagnostic protocols and management strategies. Emphasis was placed on preventive public health measures such as hepatitis B (HBV) vaccination, safe injection practices and blood safety, universal precautions, harm reduction for injection drug use, perinatal transmission prevention and ensuring access to testing and treatment for chronic HBV and HCV.The technical consultation meeting brought together state officials, institutional leaders and experts to review the burden of viral hepatitis in Uttarakhand, implementation of the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program, diagnostic capacities, treatment gaps and supply chain challenges. Innovations such as Liver Induction Training and Update Program (LIT-UP), targeted screening in high-risk populations, prison-based microelimination initiatives and community-based self-testing pilots were highlighted.Community outreach activities included stigma-reduction skits, fatty liver screening camps and training of barbers and tailors as community sentinels for early risk identification. Overall, the event reinforced the importance of integrated service delivery, community engagement and coordinated policy action to accelerate progress towards hepatitis elimination by 2030.
