Creating a basic standard for medical coverage at para-sport events

Almost 30 years ago, Macauley1 highlighted the importance of establishing baseline medical standards as a foundation for quality care in sport. Within the context of Paralympic medical provision in the present day, the International Paralympic Committee Medical Code2 states that athletes should have fair access to ongoing, appropriate healthcare, including prevention, health promotion and rehabilitation based on available resources and without discrimination.
