Cachexia is defined as a loss of more than 5% of body weight or a body mass index (BMI) of less than 20 kg/m² due to chronic disease.1 It involves decreased muscle strength, fatigue, anorexia, reduced fat-free mass and abnormal biomarkers like anaemia and hypoalbuminaemia.2 The exact mechanism is unclear, but it leads to significant changes in fat, carbohydrate and protein metabolism.
