Milestones in the development of paediatrics and child health

Many of the important steps in the development of child health emanate from discoveries and innovations in the field of medical practice, which was focused on adult disease. This short review focuses on developments, with a few eclectic important innovations relevant to the care of children, before the Archives of Disease in Childhood was inaugurated a century ago (figure 1).
