Drew asks about the definition of an undifferentiated patient in the context of anaesthesia.1 The working definition of an undifferentiated patient in my independent review of physician and anaesthesia associates was someone who has not yet received a definitive medical diagnosis for the condition for which they are presenting. A person presenting with symptoms that could point to several different conditions requires a thorough assessment to determine the most likely diagnosis and management plan. This is in contrast to a “differentiated” patient, whose condition has already been diagnosed.
