Improving primary care registration for children and young people

In the UK, registration with a primary care provider does not simply provide access to a general practitioner (GP), but is a prerequisite to accessing any planned or ongoing healthcare delivered by the National Health Service (NHS), such as referral to specialist secondary care, health promotion, vaccination and screening. In fact, in the absence of registration, the only (non-private) health services which the UK population can access are emergency departments, telephone advice through NHS111 or pharmacy advice on minor ailments.
