P23 Virtual CPAP reviews – a pilot study

Introduction In our current pathway we see all of our established CPAP patients in clinic to review their compliance and check their symptoms are well controlled. As our CPAP population grows exponentially we do not have capacity to continue to see them on a 3-yearly basis in the traditional manner. We undertook a pilot study to see if patients could be managed using a virtual review of a patient questionnaire and remote CPAP download.Methods We sent 66 of our patients on remote monitoring CPAP an online questionnaire with an Epworth Sleepiness score and questions about their current symptom control. We reviewed the questionnaires and their remote CPAP downloads to ensure their OSA and symptoms were well controlled and they were using CPAP with good compliance and assessed the outcomes.Results 45 patients completed their questionnaire and were included in the analysis.Over half of the patients (58%) in this cohort were able to be adequately assessed and sent a standard letter using the virtual review alone. The rest were needed to be seen in clinic. (Figure 1) we plan to do a further pilot.It took approximately 5 minutes per patient to review the responses of the questionnaire and the CPAP download. This represented a significant time saving compared to a 30-minute clinic slot. We were able to do the initial review of all patients in 200 minutes compared to 1200 minutes if these appointments were conducted in the traditional manner.Abstract P23 Figure 1Conclusions Virtual CPAP reviews allow us to check patients are using CPAP well and have good symptom control. Over half of patients in the sample were able to be reviewed virtually and sent a standard letter. They are significantly quicker allowing us to review 6 times more patients representing a significant improvement in efficiency. It also allows us to identify which patients require further support and triage which type of clinic would be most appropriate for them to be seen in.
