The UK Foundation Programme (UKFP) is designed to prepare newly qualified doctors for clinical practice within the NHS through broad-based early postgraduate training. As such, formal exposure to prehospital emergency medicine (PHEM) is limited for most foundation doctors. For military foundation doctors who may subsequently undertake General Duties Medical Officer (GDMO) roles in austere or prehospital environments, this can create a mismatch between routine early postgraduate training exposure and future occupational requirements.1 2
