This edition of Frontline Gastroenterology reports the results from the 2024 British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) trainee survey.1 The high survey completion rate of 65% underlines how strongly trainees feel about the current state of training. The single most important take-home message of this survey is that 84% of trainees did not feel they would be ready for a gastroenterology consultant post by the end of their 4-year training, which is a major concern to all. This survey is the latest piece of evidence demonstrating that Shape of Training is not currently working for gastroenterology.
