It is a truth universally acknowledged that a respiratory research conference themed around literary puns is a respiratory research conference in want of a review article. 1 Here, early career researchers (ECRs) from basic science, clinical medicine and physiology backgrounds present their personal highlights of the 2024 British Thoracic Society (BTS) Winter Meeting, held from 27 to 29 November 2024 in London and attended by a record 2696 respiratory professionals from around the world (figure 1, table 1).
