Response to: ‘Premedication for less invasive surfactant administration: a narrative review’ by Murphy et al

We read with great interest the recent narrative review by Murphy and colleagues on premedication for less invasive surfactant administration (LISA), and we would like to congratulate the authors on their comprehensive overview of the current evidence.1 The paper includes a highly relevant section on future research directions highlighting ongoing randomised clinical trials that address the delicate balance between providing adequate analgesia during laryngoscopy and avoiding oversedation—a factor that may increase the risk of LISA failure and the subsequent need for mechanical ventilation.
