In Austria, prehospital emergency medical services (EMS) are provided by emergency medical technicians (EMTs) supplemented by emergency physicians for selected calls. Physician-staffed EMS are dispatched by state emergency call centres to calls which are suspected to be potentially life-threatening (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) severity score 4) or life-threatening (NACA severity score≥5). The goal of this 1-day study was to describe the profiles of emergency calls conducted by EMS physicians in Austria.
