Ernest (Ernie) C Borden died at 86 on January 18, 2026. He is remembered fondly and with respect for his kind, generous and impactful life as a physician, researcher, colleague, friend, policy leader, mentor, role model, optimist and family man. He was instrumental in the founding of the Society for Biologic Therapy (SBT) in 1984; an organization that championed the expansion of tumor immunology research into a clinical discipline of cancer immunotherapy. As its second president (1986–1988), he led its growth and scientific direction, which later translated to its current name: Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC).
