Background People with learning disabilities face disproportinately high obesity rates and distinct challenges in weight management, yet, remain underrepresented in related research. Inclusive methods are vital to ensure meaningful participation and enhance the relevance of findings. This study aimed to gather experiences of service users attending a weight management service (WMS) for adults with learning disabilities.Methods Adults with learning disabilites attending a WMS were interviewed using Easy Read adapted research materials to support accessibility. Researchers collaborated with the service provider, built rapport with service users, attended sessions to introduce the study and participate in activities. Data was analysed using a thematic approach. Researchers revisited the WMS to provide study feedback and gather reflections on the research process.Results Semi structured interviews with ten service users highlighted several positive aspects from their WMS, including friendly, helpful staff, convenient scheduling, educational content on healthy eating and the social aspect of attending the WMS. Changes to eating, shopping, cooking and physical activity habits were also reported. Researchers and service users welcomed the use of adapted, inclusive materials.Conclusion Adapted and inclusive research enabled service users to express views about their WMS, helping to address gaps in research, where adults with learning disabilities are often excluded. Findings will help to inform and develop more accessible and effective WMS.
