Background The Young People’s Service is based at St Gemma’s Hospice but works with children and families across all of Leeds and they don’t need to have a connection to St Gemma’s. There are two hospices in Leeds and the service covers Wheatfields Hospice as well as the Trust and Community Teams. We provide pre and post bereavement support for children and families when someone is diagnosed with a palliative disease. The service has been running for 12 years and is always developing to fit the needs of the patients and families that we work with.Aims To reduce barriers to accessing the service and also reduce the challenges of families accessing pre and post bereavement support.Methods To create a ‘drop-in’ for children and families which is open at the same time each week with themed days in the school holidays.To create a quarterly newsletter to communicate with a wider network about up and coming events as well as share news and wellbeing advice.To provide a wide variety of peer support events including tailoring days for the whole family to attend.To update our website to provide more information sharing, signposting and also make the referral process quicker and easier.Results The Open Cabin is now open every Tuesday 10am – 12pm for drop-in advice and support for professionals, parents/carers and young people. Numbers attending this are slowly increasing. The newsletter has been well received and enquiries about our events have increased following this promotion. This year we are going sailing with the Ocean Youth Trust with a group of young people and doing a big Family Fun Day in the school holidays. Plans for the new website are ongoing and will involve young people.
