We commend Thomson et al1 for conducting a 5-year longitudinal study evaluating the long-term outcomes of multifidus stimulation for treating chronic mechanical low back pain (CLBP) associated with multifidus dysfunction. This work provides important real-world and prospective data, demonstrating meaningful and durable improvements in pain, disability, and quality of life. In the landscape of interventional pain medicine where multiple options are available to treat CLBP, these findings add yet another valuable modality to our armamentarium.
