Radiotherapy for extramedullary haematopoiesis of the mandibular mucosa secondary to myelofibrosis

Extramedullary haematopoiesis (EMH) is a clinical manifestation of myelofibrosis (MF), which can lead to significant localised symptoms. A patient in her 70s with a history of MF presented with a symptomatic bleeding site of EMH in the right mandibular mucosa following dental removal, which limited her oral intake to a liquid diet. The EMH site was treated with radiotherapy (RT), administering 10 Gy in five fractions and another 10 Gy in five fractions 3 months later, resulting in a complete response and resolution of symptoms. This case highlights that RT is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for patients with symptomatic sites of EMH.
