Zafar was born in Kulti, West Bengal, and acquired his primary and postgraduate qualifications from Aligarh Muslim University in India. He worked as a paediatrician in Saudi Arabia for 18 years but moved to the UK in 2019 to pursue his lifelong dream of working in the NHS. He initially worked in the department of paediatrics at Darent Valley Hospital in Kent and then joined Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup as a community paediatrician.
