Online, we have observed disposable vaping devices that allow users to adjust the nicotine dose and flavour levels to deliver a customised vaping experience. Older tank-based (box mods) and pod-based vaping devices allow the user to select a nicotine concentration (eg, JUUL pods are available in several different nicotine concentrations and box mods allow the consumer to fill the device with any strength, flavour or formulation of nicotine). Disposable e-cigarettes have overtaken cigalikes, vape pens and mods and now lead the retail market.1 2 Until now, the disposable e-cigarette market was dominated by closed-system products with a predetermined nicotine strength and flavour. Now that disposable vaping devices are popular among adolescents and young adults, with 55.6% of adolescent vapers choosing disposables,1 2 it is important to understand the potential effects of adjustable disposable devices on vaping behaviour and nicotine dependence.
