West and colleagues provide timely and sobering evidence that weight regain after discontinuation of pharmacological weight loss treatment is not the exception but the rule.1 Their systematic review, showing an average weight regain of 0.4 kg per month after cessation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, indicates that weight may return to baseline within approximately two years. Given the rapidly expanding use of GLP-1 drugs, these findings carry major clinical and ethical implications.
