The landscape of academic publishing in sports and exercise medicine has changed substantially over the past two decades. In 2005, the SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) indexed 94 journals in the Sports Science category. Today, this number has increased to 124, while the Web of Science (WoS) lists 127 journals in comparable categories.1 2 This expansion reflects the vitality and diversification of the field, yet it has simultaneously created a growing challenge for authors navigating an increasingly crowded and heterogeneous publishing ecosystem. Within sports and exercise medicine, where interdisciplinary research spans clinical medicine, public health, physiology and social science, identifying appropriate journals can be particularly challenging for emerging researchers.
