A woman in her 50s presented to hospital with sudden-onset confusion and profound memory loss lasting approximately two and a half hours. During this period, she repeatedly asked the same questions every few minutes and was unable to retain new information or recall events occurring after symptom onset, consistent with anterograde amnesia. She also demonstrated retrograde amnesia, unable to recall events from earlier that day, including her arrival at hospital. There was no loss of consciousness, seizure activity or focal neurological deficit. Her medical history included hypothyroidism, managed with levothyroxine. She reported significant emotional stress due to a recent bereavement, along with poor sleep over the preceding week.
